New year new me, am I right? No matter what your resolution may be, it’s never a bad time to incorporate more healthy options into your everyday life. Luckily, there are so many amazing restaurants in Tucson for those looking to eat on the lighter side. Below, we have compiled a list of our personal favorites for healthy eating.
Urban Fresh
Urban Fresh is a family-owned, plant-based spot located in Downtown Tucson. Located at 73 E. Pennington St., it is a short walk from La Suprema. They have a number of options for vegetarians and vegans, including wraps, salads, soups, and sandwiches. They also have a list of smoothies and juices. Whether you are vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or just want a good meal, Urban Fresh has you covered.
Tumerico
Tumerico is a great local spot serving up Latin inspired vegan and vegetarian fare. Using fresh, local ingredients, Tumerico offers an ever-changing menu, with options that include jackfruit al pastor tacos, vegan chilaquiles, and a CBD latte. They have multiple locations across town, including La Chaiteria, which is a food truck offering both veggie and meat dishes. Tumerico is a local gem and their commitment to the community is inspiring.
Goodness
Goodness is a local cafe that is dedicated to maintaining sustainable practices and creating a kind, positive environment for all. They serve breakfast and lunch, and have dished like breakfast sandwiches, avocado toast, salads, and sandwiches. A personal favorite of mine is the Breakfast Sammy, swap the turkey sausage for avocado — yum! Along with meal options, they have juices and smoothies made from the freshest of ingredients. They recently launched an online store offering groceries, smoothie kits, and juice cleanses.
Beaut Burger
We could all stand to eat more veggies and Beaut Burger is one of the most delicious ways to do just that. Their entire menu is vegan, with gluten-free options, too. The plant-based, made in house veggie burgers served on a fermented bun is their signature option. They also offer fried cauliflower bites, a tempeh reuben, hand-cut fries, and a selection of beer and wine. Check them out in the lovely MSA Annex. They also sell their homemade burgers and buns wholesale.
Govindas
Govindas has been serving Tucson gourmet vegetarian fare since 1992. They combine fresh vegetables, whole grains, and savory spices to create their Indian-inspired menu. Pre-Covid, Govindas had a buffet that offered organic fruits and vegetables, pasta, soup, lentil chips, and vegan dessert. Their menu is seasonal, so you'll never get bored of eating here. They are now offering contactless, no self-service dine-in options, as well as carry out, available to order on the website.
